Disk Cleanup in Windows 10

Disk Cleanup is a utility that is included in the Microsoft Windows 10 and it is designed to free up space on the hard drive. The cleanup process involves searching and analyzing the hard drive for files that are no longer needed. Then it proceeds to remove them and thus freeing up disk space on the hard drive.

To open Disk Cleanup on a Windows 10 operating system, follow these instructions:

  1. To delete temporary files:
    • In the search box on the taskbar, type disk cleanup, and select Disk Cleanup from the list of results.

    • Select the drive you want to clean up, and then select OK.

    • Under Files to delete, select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.

    • Select OK.

  2. If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:
    • In Disk Cleanup, select Clean up system files.

    • Select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.

    • Select OK.

To delete system files that are no longer needed on your computer, click Clean up system files.
